On a recent Saturday morning, my always-energetic four-year-old son, Lucas Messiah, gave me a welcome reprieve from rising early, routinely reaching for his basketball or drumsticks.
I watched him sleep, snuggled close to him, adored the ray of sunshine peeping through the blinds, and listened to the hum of the refrigerator.
“Life is good, “ I thought. “God is good.”
I thought about many of my life’s experiences and how He’d proven to Himself be a constant Friend through them all. Each day of my life, He reigned in the minute details and in every circumstance.
Sometimes words simply do not seem to rightly convey heartfelt emotions. Words that come to my mind now begin with the prefix ‘re’, an indicator that some action is done repeatedly. Over and over again, I find Him to be a refuge from the storms of life. He restores my south each time I become weary or heavy-laden. He rebuilds my broken places. He rebukes me to teach me righteousness. He redeems my life from destruction and from the fowler’s snare. He rescues and saves. He alone is totally reliable at all times. When I‘m doubtful, He remains faithful. He refines me like silver, renews my youth like an eagle’s, and reveals His thoughts to me. There is no end to His faithfulness. His mercy and lovingkindness endures forever. He is the resurrection Who shows Himself alive and true since the ancient of days until this present moment. He’s shown Himself to me over and over and over again in these various capacities, letting me know that my humanness cannot subtract from, or wear out Who He is alone and eternally. His repeated faithfulness brings about constant rejoicing in Him.
He responds to prayer, knowing our thoughts afar off.
Lying there reflecting on my experiences, I thought, “God, I love You.
At that very moment, to my pleasant surprise, in the stillness of the morning, my son awoke, hugged me tight and said, “I love you too.”
It was God audibly speaking, telling me, again, of His blessed assurance, showing me again that He does live, love, and cares for His people.
Happy Easter!
